National Ballet of Canada

Bruce Mau Design partnered with the National Ballet of Canada to create an identity that could signal a big shift for the company. Hope Muir – the brand new NBoC Artistic Director – wanted movement style to be cornerstone of this new identity. I worked with BMD to develop a motion language that would be both flexible and unique. In order to help build a more inclusive brand, open to all kinds of new audiences, we anchored our motion concept around kinetic typography forming invitational prompts, phrases, and provocations. In that same spirit of accessibility, we designed a simple animation system that could easily be edited and proliferated across all kinds of communications. The new identity launched for the 24-25 Season and has already proved to be much more than a reskin. It’s the visual manifestation of a modern and progressive creative mission.
